Kolkas creek – place, which divides the Gulf of Riga from the Baltic Sea. This is the final point populated territory of the ancient Livs. They lived in the seacoast of the Riga Gulf.
Itinerary of excursion:
We depart from Riga in the morning. We are taking a road of Jurmalas highway. During the 70’s of 20th century, this highway was one of the most advanced in Baltic States. We arrive in the town Talsi.
Excursion in Talsi – town which is placed upon seven hillocks. It excites people with beautiful landscape. Talsene (Talsi) was old populated area of the ancient Livs. For the first time in a recorded history Talsi as the town is mentioned in the 13th century. Architects had proven that Talsi was one of the largest and well-fastened cities, which was inhabited by the ancient Lives already in 10th to 13th century. Archaeologists think that Talsi has nine periods of building. Talsene had been large centre of trade, which had cooperation with the west European cities already in 10th to 13th century. Nowadays Talsi is small and cosy town of Courland, which keeps historic testimonies. Some of the most interesting sightseeing places is Lutherans Church in Talsi, which is built in 16th, as well as Dendrological garden, which was established in 1883.
You will also see Dundaga Caslte - wonderful architectural monument.
Mazirbe is unique place in Courland, where we can still meet people, whose ancestry lived far back in the past. It is the fatherland of ancient Livs. Kolkas creek – a strip of land, which runs deep into the sea and divides the Gulf of Riga from the Baltic Sea.
During the free time you can have a walk along the Gulf of Riga. If you be lucky, you will find a peace of amber.
