5. Ventspils

Ventspils is one of the oldest cities of Kurzeme. It is a seaport and one of those cities in Latvia, which is developing very fast.

Itinerary of excursion:

We depart from Riga in the morning. Our road leads in the direction of Jurmala. The name of this city corresponds to its geographical location. City is located between the water and the main road near to the river Lielupe and the Baltic Sea. Jurmala extends more than 30 km lengthways. Road tends to Tukums.
You will hear about Usma Lake, which is one of the most gorgeous natural specimens. Approximately at 11:00 am we arrive in Ventspils.
Then we will have an excursion in Ventspils. Ventspils is one of the oldest cities of ancient Livonia. Nowadays it is the sixth largest city in Latvia, and one of those cities, which develops faster than any one else.
We find origin of the city in 18th century. City had been established ashore river Venta, in the place, where river flows into a sea. For a long time Ventspils was called Vindava. Only in the 20th century Ventspils got its instant name, which is connected with its location – near the river Venta.
We will have excursion to the oldest part of Ventspils - castle of Livonian Order. Then we visit the Olympic sport centre, row with a small ship – Earl Jacob, and the Sea Museum as well. After excursion - free time.
At 18:00 pm – departure to Riga.
We will return late in the evening.
